Doesn't seem to "flow"

This song never seems to "flow."  Instead of the notes melding together, it almost seems as if many parts of the song are being played on a keyboard where the player is stopping to take a breath after pressing each key.  The flute part at the beginning is the most conspicuous example of this issue.

Obviously, the Overclocked judges liked the song, so perhaps I look for different things in music I like.  This music seems to retain the feeling of being from a synthesized game (even though it improves upon the original), whereas I tend to prefer game remixes that no longer sound as if they're from a game.  That's probably why I've never been a fan of chiptunes.
