System back online

quintin3265 · February 13, 2013 at 03:07 UTC

On Sunday night, the site went into a state where it froze for several hours. The cause was a combination of an unlikely circumstance (someone happening to access the site while songs were being converted to MP3 format) and a bug in 5ite's server control panel. Their control panel showed that 0 out of 0 bytes memory was in use, so I had to submit a ticket to them to figure out what was wrong with their control panel.

Had this issue happened on a Saturday morning, it would likely have been fixed immediately. Unfortunately, it happened at the worst possible time: about an hour after I went to bed on a Sunday night. I wasn't even aware of it until I woke up, didn't have access to the Internet to address it until I got home from work, and generally only have an hour a day on the weekdays to do anything other than work, exercise, eat, and sleep.

Everything should be back online now. I apologize for the inconvenience. Feel free to report anything that might still be broken in this thread.

Phew, remixsquared is back again!
You're doing so much to keep the site working, let me say thanks!

Oops, I spoke too soon. Now it looks like old songs are displaying instead of newer ones.

I can't investigate this now, but I'll look into it in about 10 hours or so.

Why am I always the bearer of bad news? D:
Attempting to access my own songs from my profile page lead me to this un-formatted version of the page. Not sure if this is serverside or clientside.
(I'll get around to that other concept art from our previous conversation once the site itself is back on the rails, for simplicity's sake.)

Thanks. This was a server-side issue. The jobs that update song statistics were timing out, so the latest songs weren't being included in the results. I think I fixed this latest issue by simply increasing the allowed running time of these jobs.

I don't know what the default Linux "curl" command timeout is, but I set it to 10 minutes to be safe.

Glad to hear we're back up and running! You had me worried.
