remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · December 15, 2012 at 20:53 UTC
This thread will be continually updated with the newest features that have been released. A list of features that have not yet been released will also be included.
2012-12-18 (not yet released):
-Rounded the corners of all white boxes throughout the site.
2012-12-15:
-Replaced the VGMdb forums with integrated forums that we can moderate ourselves, and which contain the same usernames and passwords as the main site.
-Removed the "Community songs feed" and all associated documentation.
-Re-added the "announcements and forum discussions" box, which had disappeared from the front page.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread

2013-01-03:
-Fixed some issues with voting for compos. The previous voting system was difficult to understand, so the "vote" button now adds all songs in the compo in a random order. Voters then highlight the songs they want to rate and move them up and down to the order they want them to appear in. Previously, voters had to click "cast vote" for each song and then move it up and down, and this extra step was unnecessary and confusing.
-Updated the documentation to remove the explanations about the extra step in the old voting system.
Next, I need to make it easier to log into this forum by putting some sort of login box at the top, as the current method of only being able to log into the site first and then go to the forums has turned some posters away.

2013-01-04:
-Modified the forums so that users can now log in and log out using the link in the upper-right corner of the forums.

2013-01-11:
-Added tags.
-Added games.
-Removed the VGMdb database references and all associated data.
-Removed all references to the VGMdb forums and replaced them with references to the integrated forums.
-Created new search interface to replace the existing song grid search.
-Simplified the site's homepage and removed the song charts grid. The song charts are still available by clicking "view song charts." The songs displayed on the front page are the top songs that would have been displayed in the song grid (but the scores are only visible on the grid page).
-Fixed: attempting to view profiles for users with certain characters, like "#," resulted in an error.
-Fixed: on some computers, the compo details page rendered the announcements far off to the right of the page.
-Improved support for mobile devices.
-Fixed: fonts would not display properly on Android phones.
-The homepage is now cached and updated every four hours, which will lead to increased performance on that page.
-Removed some search-engine optimized text on the song details pages, so that the song's title is no longer displayed with the game's title next to it.
-Changed styling; rounded corners of all containers.
-Fixed: the help page for uploading songs had disappeared from the help menus.
-Added help pages for games and tags.
-Modified the song details pages to display games and tags, and allow searching by games and tags by clicking on them.
-Search results will now include banners to indicate when a song is brand new or has recently been revised to a new version. The front page will also display these banners.
-Displayed WIPs in search results. WIPs are indicated by the text "WIP" and a differently-shaded background.
-Added initial tag types (community suggestions will be accepted for additional tag types).
-Added ability to filter by remixes, originals, or both.
-Indicated revised versus new songs in the "latest songs" box.
-Updated the terms of service to clarify our stance on financial issues.
-Updated the help pages to more clearly define what is allowed to be posted.
-Added an explanation of the "extreme programming" development philosophy to the help files.
-Updated the "what is Game Remixes" page to explain our stance on judging and fairness, and added some text about posting guidelines in these forums.
-Fixed: users who have special characters in their usernames had broken user profile pages that displayed no data.
-Improved Google Page Speed score to 95.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread
quintin3265 · January 12, 2013 at 20:09 UTC
2013-01-12:
-Fixed: When "back" was clicked to return to the song search page, the sort order and type (remixes or originals) was not saved, leading to different search results possibly being displayed.
-Fixed: The "browse songs" link at the top of the song details pages had been broken by the last release. (Thanks, DjtheS)
-Fixed: Games were unable to be added because of a configuration issue on the production server. (Thanks, DjtheS)
-Deleted the "genre" tables from the code and the database. These tables were created in 2009 because it was foreseen the feature might be added, but tags have superseded it.
-Deleted tables that cached VGMdb information.
-Linked forum avatars to site avatars and synchronized the changes. Users' site avatars are now displayed in the forums and change if their profiles are updated.
-Rounded the corners of the grids, as Rize suggested.
-New or revised songs now auto-create a thread in the forums, allowing users to discuss that song here. The topics provide streamable controls and details about the song and anybody can reply to them.
-Added a link to the auto-created forum topic that will appear on all future song details pages.
-In line with suggestions, removed unnecessary "view details" buttons from the top of several grids, when "view details" was the only button available on those grids. The idea is that having the button confuses people by providing too many ways to navigate to a song, album, or compo.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread
quintin3265 · January 13, 2013 at 17:42 UTC
2013-01-13:
-Changed the way the "song history" box is displayed on song pages to simplify it and improve performance. The grid control was completely removed. The "song history" box will not appear at all when only one version of the song has been uploaded; otherwise, a flat grid will be displayed that provides the same information as before, but is not sortable or searchable. It was thought that the sorting and searching were not necessary for this grid.
-Likewise, eliminated the "toplist positions" grid on the song details pages, and replaced it with a simpler display of the positions that each user has. If there are more than 30 toplist entries (which is currently not the case on any songs), only the users who have rated the song highest on their lists will be displayed.
-Changed the ratings system to a 10-point scale, in line with community feedback. Though a 10-point scale provides less accurate results in voting, it was a consistent criticism in the site's design. Ratings were converted with the following formula: 1 => 1, 2 => 3, 3 => 4, 4 => 6, 5 => 7, 6 => 8, 7 => 10.
-Reduced the frequency of several batch jobs, like the computation of the latest version of each song, in order to improve site performance.
-Corrected some misleading text on various pages.
-Album covers now display along with album titles on the front page.
-Posted requests for bids on a design for a new logo. (If you are a graphic designer, you are welcome to bid by private-messaging me).
-When users make forum posts, they are now granted experience points.
-Fixed: when a user revised a song, that song would not be visible anywhere on the site for up to four hours. That would prevent users from entering compos or modifying albums with newly revised songs.
-Added a new tag, "remix type," which allows users to categorize direct covers, chiptunes, or major remixes.
Note: the next big things on the list are to get a new logo, and to phase out the current reviews system. The current reviews system will be replaced by the forums, with text pulled from replies to the threads. The first part of this was to provide experience points for posting to the forums, just as points are provided for posting reviews now. It will also be possible to rate songs directly from the forums in the future.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread
quintin3265 · January 15, 2013 at 21:36 UTC
2013-01-16:
-Fixed: editing a song breaks its forum thread, as well as eliminating information about its bit depth, sampling frequency, length, and other characteristics of the song.
-Added star ratings to forum posts in the song feedback forums.
-Enabled voting for songs in the feedback forums. Stars are displayed when clicking "post reply" or "quick reply."
-*Cancelled - this is difficult to do and will be revisited later* Removed the red administrator color next to the name of moderators, as I want this to be a community of equals. The colors only intimidate people and the names of moderators can be listed elsewhere.
-Fixed: thread titles for new songs often exceeded the maximum length that the phpBB software allowed.
-Upon adding a game to a song, the text of the field is cleared so the user doesn't have to backspace the text before adding a second game.
-Removed the old ratings interface from the song details pages.
-Fixed: the "announcements and forum discussions" box displayed garbage "statistics" for posts that are very short.
-Enabled caching for embedded song boxes, both when they are included in this site and at other sites.
-Added forum threads for old songs, and converted the old reviews into one post per review on those threads.
-Added "forum discussion" box to the song details pages, which displays posts about that song.
-Added "EXP" to the right side of posts, which shows how many experience points a user has. Note: this is not the end implementation. The goal is to have listed "experience ever earned," or "gald" as some have called it, which is a more accurate measure of site participation.
-Fixed: songs with many games had text which overflowed the edges of the boxes on the search page.
-Added help page describing works in progress.
-Removed works in progress from the new songs RSS feed (Shredster7 pointed this out).
-Works in progress are now announced in a separate forum. There are two forums: one for releases, and one for works in progress.
-Added game box art to the left of threads for remixes in the song forums.
-Modified titles of new threads in the forums to better deal with long song titles and long usernames.
-Fixed: Embedded songs, including in the forums, downloaded the file and presented a download box in addition to playing the song.
Next up will be a new logo and a new name for the site. Don't worry, all links will still work.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread
quintin3265 · January 18, 2013 at 00:06 UTC
2013-01-17:
-Expanded the indexing scheme that is currently used on song titles to also include game titles. Searches for games, and for "everything," will now work faster.
-Added alternate words to games, so that terms such as "v" are searchable as "5."
-Words or numbers with fewer than three characters are no longer ignored in searches; this is a limitation in MySQL that had to be worked around.
-Attempted to resolve an issue where you could be logged into the site, but logged out of the forums, and clicking "login" in the forums would log you in without asking for your password.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread
quintin3265 · January 19, 2013 at 15:27 UTC
2013-01-19:
-Modified the top title bar to center the information that appears there when a user is logged in. Also made the title bar shorter in height, to take up less of the page.
-Reduced the bandwidth consumption for some of the Javascript used on the site by linking to Google's content delivery network.
-Fixed: album ratings were inaccurate. Removed the "average rating of songs" from the albums page and put the corrected number on the details page of the album.
-Lowered the experience cost of album downloads in order to encourage more people to download albums, while still controlling bandwidth costs.
-Attempted a different fix for the "not logged into forums while logged into site" problem.
-Changed the name of the site to remixsquared, using the logos created by Shredster7.
-Changed the font style used in the "song boxes" on the front page and in the search results. There were some comments that the Ank font was overused and the song titles were hard to read. Comments are welcome as to whether this change is good or bad.
-Resolved a bug in the Android browser where the top menus would display across three lines, which was very ugly.
Sorry to those who were uploading songs at the time of the changes. I should be finished now.
Re: Game Remixes released features thread
quintin3265 · January 19, 2013 at 23:50 UTC
2013-01-19 (weekends are great):
-Fixed: the "originals" logo was appearing on pages for remixes.
-The "latest songs" box on the front page now displays created date, rather than release date. That allows artists to gain new exposure for their songs even if they have previously uploaded them to another site. The immediate effect is that Torlezan's songs, which are legacy works, appear in the box. Everywhere else on the site is unchanged and still displays release dates.
-Redirected remixcubed.com/net/info/org to this site to prevent squatters from getting the idea
-Started a Google AdWords campaign with some free credits Google gave me for some reason
Note: the eventual plan for the "latest songs" box is for the newest song of the last five uploading artists to be displayed, so that artists don't fill up the feed if they upload their entire collections at once. I have that disabled currently but the time for it may be approaching soon.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 21, 2013 at 03:51 UTC
2013-01-20:
-Added code to cause a crash and log an error when a user's password is being saved as an empty string. This issue affected some new users in the past but nobody has been able to reproduce it. Now, no more corruption will be caused and a stack trace will be E-Mailed the next time it occurs.
-Changed the maximum username length from 128 to 32 characters, which makes a lot of UI design easier. This issue was also a suggestion made a long time ago but it was never implemented.
-Changed some error messages in forms to be more descriptive; for example, the error message for an invalid E-Mail address doesn't simply say "invalid."
-Read some articles on UI design and found out the counterintuitive suggestion that some people actually dislike having too many ways to do things. Therefore, I removed the "list all" buttons from the top of many song grids, as people can simply click "songs" to list all songs.
-Similarly, removed the double-click functionality for all grids. There is no case where double-clicking is the only way to accomplish a task, and some users might have accidentally double-clicked a grid when they meant to highlight a row to edit it or delete it.
-Removed selection capabilities from the grids when there are no editing permissions available, such as on the song charts page.
Press CTRL-F5 if you do not see these changes or if pages appear to be broken to you. This week will be about fixing bugs, making incremental UI improvements, and advertising.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 21, 2013 at 21:48 UTC
2013-01-21:
-Replaced the previous upload tool with a new tool, in an effort to eliminate "uploaded file not found" errors. If you encountered one of these errors previously, try again.
-Eliminated a security hole where someone could use another file on the webserver as a profile picture; not sure whether this actually had any implications or not.
-Fixed: In IE 9 and 10, the line chart detailing song views over time did not display.
-Removed 2KB of Javascript code that was used for the pulldown menus, which are no longer present, from all pages.
-Fixed: when a user had not uploaded any albums, the "albums" grid in the control panel had a white box that was not supposed to be present.
-Changed the "Date updated" time on the song details pages to "Date uploaded," which is a much more meaningful piece of data.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 23, 2013 at 21:49 UTC
2013-01-24:
-Revamped the artist public profile page. Removed the grids on that page. Reduced the size of the toplist songs to a small list on the side. Moved the list of the artist's songs above the fold, and put the artist's picture below the fold, since songs are more important. Hid both songs and toplist entries entirely if the artist has none. Made the songs smaller and used the newer display style for the songs.
-Upgraded these forums to the latest version of phpBB, in an effort to fix a few issues. Will reevaluate whether the issues were actually fixed during the weekend.
-Fixed: the map on the artist profiles pages was returning an error ever since Google upgraded its mapping tool.
-Disabled the "minify" PHP tool, which was combining all the Javascript and CSS files into one. It did not appear to be functioning as advertised, and was taking a very long time to load pages. I never caught that because I always had the JS and CSS cached - and this may be what Rize was referring to in December when he said that the pages "loaded slowly."
-Spent some time assigning the various Javascript dependencies only to the pages that need them. Also removed two Javascript dependencies entirely, as they were not needed anywhere. The homepage now has five fewer scripts being loaded.
-Fixed: in grids, such as on the compo pages, the links to game information don't actually go anywhere; instead, they just reload the same page. Now, the links will direct the user to the correct Giantbomb details page.
-Hung 150 flyers around several buildings advertising the site, but couldn't finish the job because the box of staples fell out of the folder into a snowpile and I wasn't able to find it.
-Gathered information for and published the financial balance sheet.
-Sent an E-mail to users on the site's mailing list suggesting that users tag their existing songs.
-Fixed: the recent change in the upload tool prevented users from changing pictures associated with albums.
-On the user profile page, removed the "location" listing if the user declined to enter his or her location.
-Updated text on various pages to reflect changes that had been made but the descriptions were never updated.
-Reduced the number of queries necessary to perform certain actions, improving performance.

2013-01-25:
-Spent most of the day improving performance by a lot. In addition to the performance issues resolved yesterday, it turns out that integration with these forums was also slowing things down by almost two seconds on the song details pages. By querying the forum database directly, instead of loading phpBB and calling its functions, that delay was eliminated. There were also some queries that could have been written against calculated tables, rather than the raw data, which appears to have made a difference too.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 27, 2013 at 15:01 UTC
2013-01-27:
-Fixed: djthes reported a bug where the new upload tool would reject files larger than 10MB, because I forgot to change a default setting. I changed the maximum size to 800MB.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 27, 2013 at 22:37 UTC
2013-01-27 (in the afternoon):
-Eliminated many database queries. The page load time fell by about 40% after the number of queries fell from 69 to 40 on the song details pages. There were also some particularly time-consuming queries that were eliminated.
-Fixed: the "random song" function was not including lossless songs in the selection of random songs.
-Moved the "forum discussions" box to the right side on the song details pages, so that songs with long descriptions have less empty space on the right.
-Fixed: in some browsers, the album details pages would display scrollbars the first time the page was loaded, but not the second time or any other time.
-Eliminated more Javascript and CSS files that had been left in from years of development, but which were no longer being used.
-Compressed Javascript files manually and eliminated the "minify" program to improve load time
-Fixed: album archives were not being created properly.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 29, 2013 at 01:04 UTC
2013-01-28:
-Fixed: when two tags (or two games) were searched for at the same time, the wrong search results would be displayed. Instead of displaying songs that had both tags, the page displayed songs that had either tag, which made the feature useless. It was also inconsistent with how everything else on the page works, which is that every criteria has to be met for a song to display there. If you want to find songs with either tag, you could have (and still can) just search for both tags individually.
-Fixed: trailing slashes in URLs are now removed automatically, so typing "/remixes/" will redirect to "/remixes" for consistency and search engine optimization.
-Fixed: attempting to send a private message to a user in the forums when the user's name contained a capital letter failed with "The requested users do not exist."
-Changed the compo URLs so that they contain the compo title, instead of the unique database ID of the compo, for readability and search engine optimization. Links to compos using the old scheme will still work.
-Purchased a virtual private server hosting package. This will improve site performance and, more importantly, eliminate the various problems that Lunarpages causes when other sites on the same server go down (like the cron jobs issue that stopped the songs from being processed for two days). It will take the next few days to set this up, though.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · January 29, 2013 at 20:23 UTC
Completed but not yet released:
-Fixed: the "vote spreadsheet" button on the user control panel under the "compos" grid returned a broken Excel file.
-Added "downloads" and "views" columns to the "songs" grid on the user control panel, so that artists can quickly find out how popular their songs have become.
-Prevented users who have not yet listened to or downloaded a song from rating it, so that people cannot randomly click through songs and rate them all a single value.
-Created a new, simpler, voting interface for compos.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · February 03, 2013 at 04:37 UTC
2013-02-02:
-Moved the site to the new host. This was a huge task that took much longer than expected, but I, at least, am surprised by the performance of the new server.
-Resolved corrupted MP3s issue (see thread in bug reports).
-Recalculated bitrates and sampling frequencies for all files where that data had been lost when files were edited due to a now-fixed bug.
-32-bit floating-point WAVE files now display correctly and display the correct bit depth.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · February 03, 2013 at 16:03 UTC
2013-02-03:
-Modified caching so that less bandwidth is used while browsing the site. Please let me know if this change results in outdated pages displaying.
-Fixed: These forums would sometimes flash white before loading, even if the user was browsing between pages on the same thread.
-Added Shredster7's favicon to the site, and it will now display in the browser tab bar.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · February 05, 2013 at 23:44 UTC
2013-02-05:
-Fixed: User registration was failing with a white screen.
-Fixed: The "empty passwords" issue that Shredster7 discovered has finally been resolved. The cause was a user entering an invalid captcha upon user registration, and then not entering anything in the password field afterward. Most Web browsers clear password fields when a page is reloaded. Now, an error message is printed if the registering user doesn't reenter the password after making a mistake on the form.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · February 16, 2013 at 16:41 UTC
2013-02-16:
-Reduced the cost of downloading an album to zero. We can now allow free album downloads because this new hosting plan allows several terabytes of bandwidth. At this point, bandwidth is no limitation, so there is no reason to make downloading albums less enticing.
-Removed the review_comment functionality, since comments on reviews were replaced by the forums. Attackers had been attempting to post spam comments in review comments, but since they are no longer displayed, these attackers will now receive 404 errors.
-Set up a "test" server, which will allow community members to preview features and comment on them before they are released. The address of this server will be announced later today.
-Installed a tool to ban attackers who decreased performance by attempting to log into the server as root 100,000 times on Friday alone. Now, they will be banned after three attempts.
-Fixed: a malicious user could have typed in the server's IP address, instead of its domain name, and obtained database passwords. However, since the database refuses external connections, the severity of this vulnerability was probably low.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · February 17, 2013 at 16:46 UTC
2013-02-17:
-Reduced the timeout for uploading songs from 2 hours to 1 hour. That way, the server will be less likely to exhaust all its memory in the case of a failed upload.
-Removed an unused obsolete comment page, which was polluting the logs with errors as automated bots repeatedly hit those pages.
-Changed the PHP garbage collection lifetime, in a wild guess that perhaps increasing it might reduce the number of "uploaded file not found" errors.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · February 23, 2013 at 20:51 UTC
2013-02-23:
-Increased the amount of RAM to 1GB in the server. There have been no further memory issues since the amount of RAM was increased.
-Released the new compo design (see the other forum threads). This is a major change to how compo voting works and represents most of the effort for the past several weeks.
-Fixed: on the song "add tags" screen, the menus were being overlapped by other things on the page (thanks, Shredster).

quintin3265 · February 26, 2013 at 03:01 UTC
2013-02-25:
-Fixed: Song conversions failed sometimes and bitrates, bit depths, and sampling frequencies were never reported because of an incorrect directory path in a configuration file.
-Fixed: In Chrome (but not Firefox), the "version history" grid on the right side of the song details page wrapped over into two lines, displaying the correct data but in an ugly format.

2013-02-26:
-Fixed: After uploading a song, a white screen appeared rather than moving to the "tags and games" selection page. The cause was that the GD image processing library was not installed on the server, so I installed it.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · March 02, 2013 at 17:04 UTC
2013-03-02:
-Upgraded the version of MySQL on the server from 5.1 to 5.6. The shared server that was used before February 2 had used version 5.0.
This upgrade provides support for several critical features. Of the two main table engines in MySQL 5.0 and 5.1, MyISAM allowed FULLTEXT search indexes, and InnoDB provided support for transactions. Since we were forced to choose between the two, InnoDB was used for 50 of remixsquared's 63 tables, but MyISAM had to be used anywhere data was to be searchable, in order to provide reasonable performance. That included songs, games, compos, and a few other key tables.
These tables, since they didn't support transactions, had the potential for corruption to occur, because some changes could be made and others not if an error occurred or the user clicked "stop." An example of these errors is when the server ran out of memory earlier in the month, and the song statistics would be left with half of the songs present. With InnoDB, the only possible outcomes of a statistics calculation are for all songs to be updated, or for the entire job to fail and the original data restored.
The other advantage of InnoDB is that the entire site will not freeze temporarily when someone uploads a song or makes a change to their profile. While this isn't a major concern as the number of songs uploaded is small compared to the number of visitors, it is possible that some people got "unlucky" and happened to get a long load time if they happened to come in at the exact same time someone was making edits to a song.
In 2009, when remixsquared was initially developed, MySQL 5.0 was new and this was something that was unable to be resolved. Later, the use of the shared server prevented us from upgrading. This upgrade should increase stability and reduce the number of difficult-to-reproduce bugs. However, keep in mind that, in the short term, there may be an unforeseen incompatibility that I missed and that might crop up suddenly and need to be resolved.

quintin3265 · March 03, 2013 at 16:04 UTC
2013-03-03:
-Changed the behavior of the compo listing page after a song is submitted or withdrawn due to a bug report. Song submission and withdrawal had always worked, but after the new compo design was unveiled, the page was not reloaded after a song was submitted. Pressing F5 or browsing to a different page caused the compo to display with all songs. Now, the page is reloaded immediately after submission, which will display the submitted song immediately. Thanks to Mike Giles for this report.
-Fixed: for the past 20 days, the robots.txt file was prohibiting all search engines from indexing any pages of the site, because I uploaded the wrong file when the new server was configured. I overwrite it with the correct file and now the site should be reindexed over the next few days.
-Fixed: the old server was calling the new server and duplicating all the background tasks. The effects of this bug are unknown, but could have been responsible for strange behavior or slowness.

2013-03-10:
-Fixed: For compos that had already ended, and when a song had received no votes, the entire page crashed instead of a score of zero being displayed.
-Fixed: Viewing albums and songs resulted in a crash for certain visitors. The criteria were that the visitor had to have never visited the site before, and been browsing to an album or song with specific characters in its name.

2013-03-16:
-Installed eAccelerator, which optimizes PHP code. The site's speed appears to have improved significantly as a result.
-Fixed: the "x% of viewers downloaded this song" text was subscripted on the song details page.
-Modified the documentation so that it now describes how to use the new compo voting system. It had previously been outdated.
Re: remixsquared released features thread
quintin3265 · March 17, 2013 at 16:42 UTC
2013-03-17:
-Added error reporting for client-side Javascript errors. This error reporting will help reduce bugs that would otherwise go unreported, such as non-working grids and buttons. Server-side exception reporting has been available for a while and many bugs reported by it have been fixed.
-Fixed: when the user encountered an error on the "new album" page, such as forgetting to enter the album's title, the style of the page was messed up and the white background turned grey.
-Increased the frequency of song processing jobs from once every four hours to once every hour.
-Fixed: blocked media conversions until at least one hour after the last edit was made to a song. This change will ensure that song forum posts are never automatically generated while the user is still adding tags and games to the song.
-Made all album downloads free to all users, while still retaining the ability to restrict downloads to registered users in the future, should bandwidth become an issue.
-Fixed: a typo in the error messages on the user registration screen.
-Deleted unnecessary code that had been commented out as it was replaced by other features.
-Attempted a fix for the issue where users have to click "log in" in these forums while they are actually still logged into the site, which results in them not having to enter their passwords.
-When a user submits a form, such as for a new song, the "Save" button in all forms now becomes disabled, so that double-clicking is not allowed and duplicate actions do not occur.
-At Huddini's suggestion, displayed the estimated wait time on the song details pages for songs that have not yet been processed for streaming.
-Updated the help pages to reflect the changes made this weekend.

2013-03-23:
-Modified the song conversion process so that users may now explicitly click a "process song" button, which submits songs to a "fast conversion" process. This "fast conversion" process requires fewer than five minutes to analyze and convert songs, which should address community concerns about delayed song conversions.
-Fixed: on the "games and tags" screens, I had forgotten to make the "Finished" (now "process song") button become disabled after clicking it to prevent duplicate submission.
-Added lifecentral.info, which was previously hosted at Lunarpages, to this server, to deal with Lunarpages complaints that I was using more than 1% (!) of their server's CPU usage. The addition of this site will have a negligible impact on remixsquared, since only 5% of this server's CPU is ever used at max load anyway and lifecentral.info is largely a failed project.
-Paid hosting invoices to 5ite for the next several months and updated the remixsquared balance sheet.
-Deleted unnecessary files from the server so that there is now 12.6/65GB space used.

2013-03-24:
-Added the navigation bar to the forums (suggested by several members).
-Added a "register" link to the forums, which redirects users to the main site registration page.
-Added "Control panel" and "Edit profile" links to the forums, which function the same way the main site's corresponding features do. These icons are only displayed when a user is logged in.

2013-04-02:
-Added page for Audio Overdrive contest rules.
-Added Audio Overdrive advertisement to front page.
-At Huddini's suggestion, slightly darkened the text color on all pages. This change will take up to 1 week to take effect on all computers, because of caching.

-Fixed: In Internet Explorer 8, the song boxes were not wrapping correctly, resulting in the front page being extended with a lot of empty space to the right.
-Fixed: In Internet Explorer 8, the text for the number of song views, song downloads, and total number of ratings was very small and too hard to read.
-Upgraded JQuery and the JQuery UI to the latest versions, and fixed bugs that the JQuery developers had caused by deprecating functions.
-Added "user agent" to the error_log table, so that additional information is logged when an exception or Javascript error occurs, to aid in debugging.
-Deleted the alert box that appeared when a Javascript error occurred, as it was annoying to people like Zinle who encountered many errors and the errors were being reported automatically anyway.
-Deleted unnecessary code from several locations that was causing Google to attempt to index pages that didn't exist, resulting in large numbers of 404 errors.
-Removed a stray "/" closing tag from the "discuss this song in the forums" link on the song details pages, which made for invalid HTML and may have caused some browsers to make that link unclickable.
-Added, tested, and enabled an automatic daily backup script for the remixsquared and the rsforum databases, which dumps all the databases, compresses the data, uploads it by FTP to shoemakervillage.org for offsite storage, deletes the backup file from the remixsquared.com server, and sends a critical E-Mail in the case that the backup failed.
-Configured a script to upload all user-created data every morning to a private directory on a different site to back up the server, and to delete songs that were removed from the backup directory at a later time, so that if a hacker gains control of the site, songs will not be deleted from the backup directory until after the problem is detected.
-Fixed: when a user had not yet voted for a compo, a message stating that the user had already voted was displayed anyway. Thanks to Shredster for reporting this issue.
-Resurrected the old source control repository that had previously been used for tracking changes, and resolved all the merge conflicts that had occurred over the long time it had not been used. Now, it will be possible to delete more code (instead of commenting it out), will reduce the possibility of making mistakes, and will free up disk space from having to make multiple copies of the code.
Regular visitors to the site, who have Javascript files cached, may need to press CTRL-F5 for the next week when some features of the site, like the rating stars, appear not to work.
