My name is Max I. Fomitchev. I am a professor of computer science at Penn State, scientist, poet and an underground electronic / dance / techno / trance musician known as UltraMax.
I work on the Fusion of Classical and Techno Music and my goal is to bring classical music to the next generation. It pains me to see treasures of classical music lying dormant and the orchestras across the United States slowly losing their patrons due to attrition of old age. When classical music concert goers are pushing 70+ what is going to happen in 10 or 15 years?
American Orchestra in the 21st Century
My vision of an American Orchestra in the 21st century involves the technology as technology is what the Next Generation of Americans is all about. The solution is to perform classics, but perform them differently. How about performing techno interpretations of classics - Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi... remixed to a techno groove! This is precisely what I have accomplished with Penn State Innovation Orchestra during our debut TechnoClassica Concert, which took place on January 26th, 2008 at Eisenhower auditorium at Penn State University Park campus. Over 1,000 attended and our seamless mixture of scores of classics with the original techno music received standing ovation and is starting to gather critical acclaim. Here is what others have to say:
"A very successful and knowledgeable blend of the worlds of pop and classical-orchestral music that in no way feels forced or unnatural.” -- Bob Woods, Telarc, Director
"It's very impressive. The mix of the musical styles was accomplished very seamlessly and seemed quite natural." -- Mike Levine, Electronic Musician, Executive Editor
"I am quite interested in presenting you with Cincinnati Pops in Concert." -- Eric Kunzel, Cincinnati Pops, Conductor
The Power of Beat and Purity of Violins and Cellos
The key is to combine the scores of classics with the original music and do so seamlessly, pick out the compatible patterns and the best material from both genres: Inspired by Paul van Dyk and Mozart, Gershwin and Moby, Depeche Mode and Tchaikovsky I combine technological innovations of the 21st century - acid sounds of analog synthesizers, deep bass and pumping energy of beat - with purity of classical instruments - piano, harp, violins and cellos - all with the goal of pushing the frontier of dance music further, towards the ultimate unity of classical and techno.
From Russia, with Love
Born in the heartland of Russia in a millennia-old city positioned on the cross-roads of Nordic and Slavic civilizations I follow in the footsteps of his outstanding compatriots: composers, writers, poets, and cosmonauts. Dedicating 7 years of his life to studying classical piano performance and another 7 to an advanced degree in computer science I am pursuing the quest of knowledge. My interests span from ancient history to modern astrophysics, from computer music to advanced topics in gravity in superconductivity. I hold highly unconventional views on many topics: accepted science is likely to be wrong on many accounts as well as any theory based fragmented evidence. One must retain an open mind be skeptical of any authority. So I let you to be the judge of my talent: waste no time - explore this site, experience UltraMax Music, and you will be amazed at what paths lay open before you.
